TRAIN FOR YOUR MOMENT
At Fox School of Hockey, we recognize that skill doesn’t necessarily come from how often you practice, but rather from how you practice. With this in mind, our Skill Development programs employ a ‘deep practice’ model that fosters confidence, focus, and motivation, while allowing players to get more out of each training session.
The secret to our program can be found in our ‘deep practice’ model, which emphasizes proper skating technique and utilizes three important strategies to accelerate player learning
SKILLS ISOLATION
Drills are developed by breaking down the down core hockey skills into smaller pieces. These pieces are practiced individually with a high number of repetitions to help players master the details and improve muscle memory. This strategy allows for immediate feedback so that players can make adjustments between repetitions.
GAME SIMULATION
Once the small details have become habits, they can be worked into game simulation drills. Drills are developed based on the situations that players will encounter most frequently during games. These drills are then executed at top speed in increasingly challenging situations and against opponents.
SMALL AREA GAMES
Once the small details have become habits, they can be worked into game simulation drills. Drills are developed based on the situations that players will encounter most frequently during games. These drills are then executed at top speed in increasingly challenging situations and against opponents.
VIDEO ANALYSIS AT TOTAL PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CAMPS
Fox School of Hockey Staff are trained in using iPad stride analysis technology to break down player strides frame by frame and give feedback to help players make goals for improving their skating. This has been found to help visual learners make corrective adjustments and reinforce the details that we discuss in our skating instruction.
